Guzpeña has a very personal artistic style, with architectural structures, objects halfway between the toy and the mechanical device, defined planes, clean landscapes. Scenes that evoke the sensation of small mechanical ballets, all within a particular and magical universe. Works of flat colors and contour lines that differentiate the spaces. Compositions with a multiplication of geometric and organic shapes linked by straight lines, almost tubular structures that act as communicating loops. Paintings that do not try to reflect the world around us, the one that we see, but another reality that is a product of the imagination. When trying to express that inner vision, the works present snippets of known forms while maintaining the memory of a recognizable reality.
Guzpeña, artistic pseudonym of Enrique Rodríguez, is a native of Prado de la Guzpeña (1964), a small town located in the foothills of the Cantabrian Mountains, in the north of the province of León (Spain). He graduated in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country.
Since 1992 he lives and works in Almanza, on the banks of the Cea River, a town near his hometown where the artist has his studio and where he finds the necessary peace of mind for creation.
Guzpeña does not remember when he began to paint, but since 1976, the year in which, being almost a child, he exhibited his work for the first time, he has not stopped traveling. Since then he has held more than 51 individual exhibitions in different halls and galleries in Spain (Zamora, Valladolid, Palencia, Asturias, Segovia, Madrid, Vitoria, Cádiz, Vigo, Alicante, Teruel, Logroño, Orense …), France, England , Canada and Belgium. In addition, he has participated in 394 group shows.
