The Portrait Show is a group exhibition exploring portraiture from traditional to non-traditional approaches in a range of media including photography, painting, sculpture, and works on paper. This exhibition will include works by Robert Arneson, John Bankston, Dawoud Bey, Jonathan Calm, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Rupert Garcia, Jennifer Greenburg, Leiko Ikemura, Oliver Lee Jackson, Eirik Johnson, Arnold Kemp, Bovey Lee, David Linger, Hung Liu, Tracey Moffatt, Martin Mull, Tameka Jenean Norris, Raymond Pettibon, Naaman Rosen, Thomas Ruff, Salomé, Amparo Sard, Peter Saul, Tracey Snelling, Lava Thomas, Kumie Tsuda, Tara Tucker, John Waters, Lewis Watts, & Henry Wessel, among others.
This diverse grouping of works spans the humorous to the somber, nodding to the rich history of the portrait while aiming to expand its boundaries.
The Spanish artist Amparo Sard, born 1973, was recently nominated in the Netherlands by LXRY as one of the 25 most important contemporary artists in the world. In 2015, she was awarded the “Medaglia d’oro dell Governo della Republica d ‘Italia” in Rome and won three times the international art prize of the Deutsche Bank.
In her paperwork, which are carried out in various formats, Amparo Sard interacts among other things, with her physical size, which is unusual for a woman, the relationship to her inner self and then to the perception, the encounter and the tolerance of the other Outside world.
Her works are in various public collections like Moma (New York), Guggenheim (New York), Deutsche Bank (New York & Berlin), West Collection (Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Chelsea, New York), Taylers Museum (Holland), Artium Museo, Casal Solleric (Palma de Mallorca), Fundación Loewe, Colección Testimoni, La Caixa, Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró, Fundación SA NOSTRA, Caja de Baleares, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Murcia, Gobierno de Cantabria, Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma, CODA Museum and others.
