“Footbal Field” is a video installation by Maider López in which street furniture interfere with the game, suggesting new uses for the square and a new structure for the urban space.

Festival for the People celebrates the rich subcultural forms across Philadelphia and aims to expand the public conception of what contemporary art is and can be. The Festival features three weekends of dynamic participatory programs and events, sculptures, installations, videos, and banners from October 13–28, including a video installation of Footbal Field, a project by Spanish artist Maider López.

Maider López’s interest relays in interrupting norms in space and architecture, inviting us to experience common spaces in novel and potentially rewarding ways. Her project Football Field presents a football field at the Sharjah Museum Square in which street furniture interfere with the game. Different ways of experiencing the public space coexist in this football field, suggesting new uses for the square and a new structure for the urban space.

Maider López has exhibited extensively throughout Europe and aboard. Some of her works include: 1645 Pieces of Chalk, Matadero Madrid (2016); Displacement. Koldo Mitxelena and Marco (2015); Play Time, 4th Les Ateliers de Rennes Biennial, Rennes, France (2014); Mom, Am I barbarian?, 13th Istanbul Biennial (2013); Between you and I, Witte de With and Skor, The Netherlands; Eclats, Centre Pompidou Metz, France (2010); Sharjah Biennial 9, United Arab Emirates (2009); Scape Christchurch Biennial of Art in Public Space, New Zealand; Line of sight, Zendai Moma Museum, Shanghai, China (2008); AdosAdos, Guggenheim Bilbao (2007); Columnes, Caixa Forum, Barcelona (2006); Ataskoa, Artium, Vitoria and 51st Venice Biennale (2005).
