The works of Antonio Ballester Moreno point to a world of primary colours and childish forms where materials like unprocessed jute or clay yield an oeuvre of singular beauty and austere shapes. Ballester Moreno’s artistic practice is a convergence of various themes, including that of the education and learning that has enabled him to create a symbolic world where everything is connected. Ballester Moreno creates process-oriented works – paintings, collages and ceramics – that materialise through the repetitive gesture of handcrafted geometries. Through his application of simplistic yet determined shapes and colors, he develops a personal vocabulary, upon which he builds a world of subtle variances and symbolic compositions. While his approach is rooted in abstraction, his works evoke histories of pattern, craft and folklore culture, which are all tied to the field of nature.

Ballester Moreno lives and works in Madrid. His work is included in the monograph Vitamin P2 published by Phaidon (2012) and is in the collections of Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M), Móstoles, Spain; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (MUSAC), León, Spain; the Olbricht Collection, Berlin, Germany and Collection Reydan Weiss, Essen, Germany. Ballester Moreno has exhibited internationally at La Casa Encendida, Madrid, Spain; Museo de Arte de Zapopan, Guadalajara, Mexico; Peres Projects, Berlin, Germany and Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M), Móstoles, Spain among others and is a recipient of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León’s (MUSAC) Artistic Creation Grant. In 2018 Ballester Moreno co-curated the 33rd Bienal de São Paulo.
