The work of Spanish sculptor Enrique Asensi combines two classic materials, steel and stone. Variously coloured granite, dolomite, limestone and alabaster contrasts well with corten steel. Asensi demonstrates the relationship between the flatness of the steel with reliefs hewn into the stone. Moreover, as well as the overall aesthetics of the sculptures, the qualities of the colours of steel and stone are shown to unite harmoniously. A closer look reveals even greater detail: perspectives, cuts, curves and layers.
Enrique Asensi was born in Valencia in 1950. He studied architecture and philosophy at the Universidad Politécnica in Valencia, and at the Académia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos, also in Valencia. The artist now lives and works near Cologne and in Barcelona.
