The exhibition presents the work carried out by Daniel G. Andújar (Almoradí, Alicante.1966) on the occasion of his participation in documenta14 in 2017. The project is structured as a visual protest against violence and an update of the current representation of conflict, showing how it affects people.

In 1955, the first edition of documenta was produced with the intention of recovering the dialogue between Germany and the rest of the world, lost after the Second World War, as well as getting in touch with the international art scene through a “presentation of 20th century art”. Since then, the city of Kassel has played the role of host, becoming over time an unquestionable point of reference in the evolution of the arts. The 2017 edition was entitled Learning from Athens, as the event took place not only in Kassel, as had historically been the case in previous editions, but also in the city of Athens for the first time.

The curators of documenta14 invited the selected artists to reflect on the social and political situation in Europe and the rest of the world, as well as on the palpable tension between North and South. It is within this framework that Daniel G. Andújar has created the work on display at the Fundació Suñol.

In Athens, the artist presented the first part of the project entitled Disasters of War – Repatriation Akademia, an interdisciplinary proposal focusing on issues such as nationality, public domain or cultural or intellectual property, as well as authenticity, reproduction, theft or looting of antiquities. In the case of Kassel, Andújar presented a second part of the project, The Disasters of War – The Trojan Horse, which deals with issues such as cultural identity and memory, but also the monument, stereotype and the concept of forgery and truth.

These two projects are presented for the first time together, accompanied by a publication that brings them together, and which contains texts by Imma Prieto and María Dolores Jiménez-Blanco. (Fundació Suñol press-release)
