This exhibition explores how innovative individuals, communities and organisations are radically re-inventing how we grow, distribute and experience food. Taking visitors on a sensory journey through the food cycle, from compost to table, it poses questions about how the collective choices we make can lead to a more sustainable, just and delicious food future in unexpected and playful ways. Asunción Molinos Gordo (b.1979, Spain) questions the categories defining “innovation” in mainstream discourses today by exploring the different forms of intellectual enquiry from the urban to the rural. Driven by a strong desire to understand the value and complexity of the rural as well as its cultural production and the obstacles that lead to its marginalisation, Molinos works in a range media including installation, photography, video, sound and other media.
In 2015 Molinos won the Sharjah Biennial Prize with her project WAM (World Agriculture Museum). Her work has been exhibited at venues including MUSAC (León), CA2M (Madrid), Matadero (Madrid), La Casa Encendida (Madrid), ARNOLFINI (Bristol), The Townhouse Gallery (Cairo), Darat Al Funun (Amman), Tranzit (Prague), ART BASEL (Miami), The Finnish Museum of Photography (Helsinki), Museo Carrillo Gil (Mexico), MAZ Museum (Guadalajara), among others.
Molinos obtained her BFA from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where she also pursued her Master in Contemporary Art Theory and Practice. She is currently represented by Travesia Cuatro gallery and lives/works between Egypt and Spain.
