Berta Jayo
In her work, Berta Jayo shows an intelligent and innovative art, far from stereotypes.
She is considered a multidisciplinary conceptual artist whose line is marked by codes of a free and surprising nature.
Biography
Berta Jayo was born in Santander in 1971.
She has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country. She did her postgraduate and master at the Chelsea College of Art and Design in London and continued her training at the ISCP in New York (International Studio and Curational Program).
In one of her last appearances, she takes a series of photographs in which the most important monuments in the world disappear, where she emphasizes the importance of creation in our society.
Also noteworthy are her religious costumes: those of a priest or a nun made with fabrics different from the usual ones or with camouflage fabrics, polka dots, pictures, flowers, colors, etc,. These appear on the streets, in museums or in specific places in different countries.
Her other facets are architectural designs and artist’s books. She edited her first book ‘Sabbatical’ in 2013, her second ‘Poamario’ in 2015 and her third book ‘Gifts from God’ in 2020.
As for her projects as a curator, she has held exhibitions with up to 16 artists in different countries, artists such as Tom Skipp, Marlena Kudlicka or Yoshiaki Kaihatsu among others, and also individually as in the case of Spencer Tunick.

Her works have been shown in many countries in exhibitions such as: “Esquisite Doll Kit”, Mexico, IV New Media Festival, Hardcore Contemporary Space, Miami, “Regreen Arts” Void +, Tokyo, “Women Alone”, Berlin International Video Festival , ELLAS, itinerante Madrid, Sala Robayera, Creators of the 20th and 21st centuries, together with Marina Abramović or Esther Ferrer, El Kubo San Sebastián, as well as in public interventions carried out in areas of specific cities, at fairs such as ARCO, Frieze London, Pulse NY, Art Basel Switzerland, 57 Venice Biennale, 14 Documenta Kassel or in museums such as The Chill Concept Miami, Bronx Museum NY, CAC Málaga, MAS, Gugenheim Bilbao, Tate Modern, Reina Sofía.
